Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar - Last Stop Before AP Openworked SKELETON??

This review is on what I consider the last stop before the AP Skeleton. The AP Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Blue Dial!

I am Watch Eric and thank you for for tuning in. In this video I will be reviewing the AP 41mm rose gold Perpetual Calendar. The first thing that I want to point out is that love this watch.How can you possibly go wrong with this 41mm in Rose gold with Blue dial! This particular watch comes with two dial variations, white and blue. I’m not going to get into the Latin America special edition, but between those two options I would choose the blue before the white. I tell people that this watch is the last stop before the AP Skeleton. The skeleton will cost way over $100k. In comparison to an AP 41mm Chrono this is on another level because of the complication. There is no comparison.
The complications for this watch are as follows: It shows the day, date, month, leap year, month of the year and the moon phase. It seems to be very laid out and it’s a lot to have in one package. Although it is not the ultra slim, it seems to fit all very compact in a nice size case. One thing that did take some time to get used is the hand that displays the week of the year. Only because it’s thin like a second hand and I felt that the watch was stopped. The blue color on this dial is perfect compared to previous blue dials that Audemars Piguet has previously done that look rather dark. This ones looks great in the sun and just pops. The moon phase dial on this watch is probably my favorite feature. The moon has plenty of detail and the sky has a nice sparkle to it. I love it. With this model they did a great job with the case back. It displays a very nice rotor and the movement looks like an obvious upgrade from the standard AP Royal Oak Self Winding. A cool thing to know is that if you set all the functions on this watch and you were to be able to keep it running long enough, it will keep track of the time and complications up to the year 2100.
The retail for this watch is $95,700 and you can pick one up preowned from around $85,000-$90,000. Overall that is a lot of bang for your buck. It is a lot of watch for under $100k.
As far as the watch game goes I would say that this the last stop before the AP Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked aka the AP Skeleton. In order to get the skeleton you would have to spend another $40,000. This is a heavy hitter. There is not many around and it has more of a complication than the skeleton.
So who is this watch for? It’s for the person that wants to buy a serious watch with a complication and stay under the $100k threshold. More of a connoisseurs watch.
When compared to the Patek 5980 in rose it would be a hard decision for me. Besides that fact that the Patek cost $150k just comparing it retail to retail the AP Perpetual Calendar stands on its own. I guess the Patek has the allure of the value and all but piece to piece the the AP is more watch.
