Rolex Batman vs Rolex Hulk | Bob's Watches

In this video we’re going to discuss the Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 126710BLNR – otherwise known as the “Batman” / “Batgirl” and the Rolex Submariner ref. 116610LV – otherwise known as the “Hulk” to highlight their differences and similarities.

The Rolex “Batman” ref. 126710BLNR belongs to the iconic Rolex GMT-Master II collection. The former Rolex GMT-Master collection launched in 1955 and enabled the wearer to reference two time zones at once thanks to an innovative 24 hour hand and a rotating 24 hour bezel. As one of the world’s very first multi-time zone pilot’s watches, Rolex GMT-Master watches appealed to avid travellers as well as experts within the aviation industry.

The GMT-Master II followed in 1983, introducing a model that enabled the two hour hands to be adjusted independently, allowing for the display of 3 time zones. Two years before this, the Rolex Submariner brought to the wrists the first ever waterproof watch, offering a water resistance of 100 meters. It has been in constant production ever since and is still one of the most coveted and sought-after timepieces in the world.

The Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 126710BLNR was introduced in 2019. It was the second version of the black/blue “Batman” which initially launched in 2013. The new revamped 2019 model features a black and blue Cerachrom bezel with a gloss black dial and a blue GMT hand. Its slightly slimmer lugs, redesigned case and a Jubilee bracelet differentiated this timepiece from the previous version.

As of this year, the Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 126710BLNR retails for $9,700, yet fetches significantly more on the pre-owned market. Its 40mm Oystersteel case constructed from 904L stainless steel, is fitted with a bidirectional rotating GMT bezel with black and blue bicolor Cerachrom insert. Its larger hands and hour markers along with a GMT hand finished in blue are dressed against ablack ‘Maxi’ dial, making for a display that is easy to reference at a quick glance.

The 100-meter water resistant Rolex “Batman” ref. 126710BLNR is powered by the in-house Caliber 3285 movement with GMT functionality, an instant date, hacking seconds feature and a 70-hour power reserve. An accuracy guaranteed to -2/+2 seconds per day is promised thanks to a paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring.

As mentioned earlier, the Rolex 126710BLNR ”Batman” watch secures to the wrist with a stainless steel Jubilee bracelet with an Oysterlock safety clasp. An Easylink 5mm comfort extension allows the bracelet to be adjusted instantaneously without the use of any tools.

The 300-meter water resistant Rolex Submariner ref. 116610LV watch launched in 2010 and features a green Cerachrom bezel combined with a green sunburst dial, hence its name - the Rolex “Hulk” among collectors. It was the first of the Submariner collection (other than gem-set models) to feature a dial color other than black or blue.

As of 2020, the Rolex “Hulk” sells for $9,350 and again appreciates on the second-hand market due to high demand and retailer shortage. Similar to the Batman GMT, it features a 40mm 904L Oystersteel case and Chromalight lume on the hands and dial, but offers slightly thicker lugs and a crown guards.

The in-house Caliber 3135 powers the Rolex Submariner ref. 116610LV. It provides a shorter power reserve than the “Batman”, at just 48 hours, but is also fitted with a paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring and is likewise chronometer-certified to guarantee an accuracy of -2/+2 seconds per day.

A stainless steel solid-link Oyster bracelet with Oysterlock safety clasp completes this Rolex watch. A Glidelock extension system allows the diver to equip the watch to the wrist over heavy diving gear, thanks to 2mm increments that will expand up to 20mm without the need for tools.

Aside from the obvious color differences between the Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 126710BLNR and the Rolex Submariner ref. 116610LV, the two watches share some similarities like the Cerachrom inserts in their bezels, their 40mm steel case widths, and the fact that both models (despite their different depth ratings) are fitted with Triplock screw-down crowns. However, the Rolex Batman boasts a longer power reserve and the advantage of two additional time zones, whereas the Rolex Hulk is equipped with a case that is 3 times more water resistant than the “Batman” and it is outfitted with an Oyster bracelet as opposed to the dressier Jubilee.
