University of Southampton, (STAG) Southampton Theory Astrophysics and Gravity Research Centre
World Leading Research Across a Vast Range of Scales
Subtitle: Southampton Theory Astrophysics and Gravity (STAG) Research Centre
Full Description for Youtube/Website: Research at the Southampton Theory Astrophysics and Gravity (STAG) Research Centre explores the fundamental principles of nature on all scales, from the microscopic building blocks of matter to galaxies and the Universe as a whole.
STAG brings together three research groups - The Astronomy Group, High Energy Physics Group and the Gravity Group - with world-leading expertise to actively engage with high-profile international experiments and observational facilities.
STAG's studies range from the quantum laws of the microcosmos (the study of elementary particles and their interactions; quantum gravity and string theory) to the quantum origin of our Universe (is our Universe a Hologram?) to studies of black holes and neutron stars (Black holes or fuzzballs?), to gravitational waves, black hole/neutron star mergers, and exploding stars (what is the state of matter under extreme conditions?) to the large-scale dynamics of the Universe (what are dark energy and dark matter? Can we “weigh the Universe”?). STAG also have leading roles in high-profile international experiments and observational facilities.
