Xiamen to the Globe: Towards a Healthy and Sustainable Coastal Ocean.

Emphasizing fundamental and interdisciplinary research, and utilizing technological innovation, the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (MEL) at Xiamen University strives to build a world-class ocean science research center, leading in marine biogeochemistry and related fields, with excellent training capabilities, and as an important force in serving global challenges.

The ocean is intimately tied to human life and development. The ocean to the Earth is as water to mankind. With this in mind, MEL focuses on marine biogeochemical processes and their interactions with the marine ecosystems, with particular attention on the impact and feedback of marine ecosystems to environmental changes under the influence of natural and human activities, such as warming, acidification and deoxygenation at the global scale, and eutrophication at a regional scale.

MEL is looking for the best scientific, management and educational solutions towards a healthy future ocean.
