Max Born Institute for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy

Max Born Institute is a non-university, publicly funded research institute for basic research in ultrafast science with a focus on physics and physical chemistry. They investigate ultrafast processes and develop state of the art laser-based light sources for this purpose. Research using these sources as well as large scale facilities are focused on basic science and fundamental processes, but also explore applications. Within the German/European research landscape, MBI plays the role of a center-of-excellence: laser expertise is developed and maintained in a constant cycle, and made available to partners that require this expertise. Beyond advancing laser technology our research pursues applications in strategically selected areas and ranges from very fundamental quantum-mechanical phenomena to applied questions such as laser-based data processing and storage.
