I MOVED IN WITH MY JAMAICAN MOTHER-IN-LAW! || WHAT A DISASTER!
We are moving again! This time, we are moving from New Jersey back to New York City, as we suffered from a sort of eviction by our landlord, due to negligence. It became impossible to live in our apartment because of the noise, flooding, no heat and no cold or hot water. So, we decided to move to Brooklyn and stay with mummy Georgia. We were laughing and saying it's basically like moving to Jamaica after returning from our vacation to Jamaica! Georgia is a stereotype of a Jamaican mom: she loves to speak Jamaican Patois or with a Jamaican accent, she keeps her house tidy and clean, she always makes some delicious Jamaican food and is unbothered by much of life. She is from a Jamaican family after all! Georgia is a difficult mother in law sometimes, but that's how she is - take it or leave it.
As we are in a pandemic, we are not allowed to commute to work in offices. So Simas is working from home and needs peace and quiet to focus and get work done. Avri commutes to her internship at a Manhattan hospital. Coming from Brooklyn, the trip is longer and she needs to get a ride or take the bus to the train station. In Jersey City, we live within walking distance to the train so Avri has more freedom and it's easier to figure out the commute.
For the week, Simas stayed at Avri's old room at Georgia's house in Brooklyn and drove Avri to the train station every morning. Meanwhile, Simas would be working his regular 8-5 from his makeshift home office. We compiled a week vlog for you guys, to stay on track with our weekly vlogs. This is an entire week condensed into one vlog. Living with my in-laws is not easy! The honest truth is that we all prefer to have our own space. A lot of people on Reddit have covered this - ask r/ girl, reddit mother in law and so on. Well, this is the real deal! Caribbean moms are something else. I'm moving back home again and I;m moving back to live with my parents.. Needless to say, we will be moving out when it's possible. Not sure when, but we will be moving to New York or New Jersey for now.
Living with my mother-in-law is not always easy because we all need our own space. She was considerate and willing to let us stay and we didn't really get in each other's way to bother either side. Georgia pulled out all the stops: she made her famous curry chicken, saltfish, green bananas and boiled dumplings, banana fritters, eggs, bacon, pork, rice and peas - you name it, she made it! No jerk chicken, but the food was so good.
