The Kite Runner Chapter 15 Summary

Chapter 15
Amir lands in Peshawar and takes a taxi. The driver tells him that Afghanis and Pakistanis are like brothers, and Muslims should look out for Muslims. Amir remembers the town from when he and Baba had stayed there before coming to America.
The last he saw Rahim Khan was when they left Kabul back in 1981. When they meet, Rahim Khan is very frail and skinny. They do some small talk and Amir tells Rahim Khan about getting married 15 years earlier, and about Baba dying happy.
The conversation talks about the Taliban. Rahim Khan has a large scar on his forehead from being hit with an AK-47 at a soccer game when someone next to him cheered. Rahim Khan says they are much worse than the stories.
Rahim Khan talks about how, when the Taliban first took over, they were seen as heroes. During the civil war, the city of Kabul was divided into neighborhoods and it was dangerous to go from one area to the other due to snipers and rockets. During that time, even the orphanage Baba built was destroyed with the children inside.
The conversation turns. Rahim Khan is dying and probably won’t survive the summer. He stayed in Baba’s house for years, as Baba gave it to him for safe keeping. Come to find out, Rahim Khan also lived with Hassan at the house. He wants to tell Amir all about Hassan.
