Clip: 1986, After SCOTUS's anti-LGB ruling in Bower v Hardwick, VISIONS looks at legal status

TODAY IN QUEER TV HISTORY

VISIONS - 11/23/1986, WPVI-TV Philadelphia

In 1986, after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled it was constituional to jail people for homosexuality, this public affairs show in Philadelphia devoted a report to our legal status in America, as explained by local activists in Philly.

The Supreme Court would later overturn that ruling in 2003, decriminalizing same-sex sex nationwide. But this year, in 2022, Justice Thomas wrote in favor of recriminalizing homosexuality, and it seems likely that several Republican appointees on the court agree.
