Long before THE FAVOURITE there was SOLDIER IN LOVE ("Disappointing and tedious" said the New York Times), a very heterosexual TV play about Queen Anne (Claire Bloom), Sarah Jennings Churchill (Jean Simmons), John Churchill (Keith Michell), and the chambermaid Abigail (Frances Sternhagen).

There's no queer content but I'm told that in 1967, quite a few lesbians and bi women tuned in because they'd heard the rumors about Queen Anne and Sarah Jennings. The play aired on tape on THE HALLMARK HALL OF FAME on April 26, 1967 on NBC. The script was by Jerome Ross.
