Forward Head Posture & Tight Upper Traps Exercise (Dissociation Technique)
Tension in your upper traps when you're stressed? Forward head posture? Too many barbell shrugs in your 20's?
Today's "New Movement Monday" technique will help.
It's one of my "dissociation" techniques, which is a specific protocol I use to reset your neuromuscular system by breaking ingrained, dysfunctional and/or detrimental movement patterns, which then allows you to reprogram it with efficient, clean patterns.
The pattern that's being broken is upper trap activation/scap elevation and forward head, hence the name of the technique being Forward Head / Scapular Elevation Dissociation.
If this movement pattern is associated with stress for you (it is for most), then every time you get stressed and your upper traps get all tense, your head will jut forward, which will reinforce itself and create a vicious cycle eventually leading to structural forward head posture that can't be fixed and all the associated problems like headaches, shoulder impingement and more.
So nip it in the bud if you can or if you've already got a stuck forward head, this technique will stop it from getting worse.

I figured for the app technique videos would have to be more concise and be useful without audio, hence all the callouts and such.
