Bulbine Lily - Australian native plants

The Bulbine Lily (Bulbine bulbosa) is a simple and delicate native Australian wildflower. Found from Queensland to Tasmania.
Each flower lasting only a day but the head will consistently bloom separate vivid yellow, flagrant star-shaped flowers for weeks.
This perennial will flower from September through March. It will die back after flowering and re-emerge in Autumn.
Our travels led us to find it gracing the landscape at the Alpine National Park in Victoria.
The corns under the earth were roasted and eaten by Indigenous Australians with its sweet taste. It provided calcium and iron for their diet.
I find it underutilised in home gardens. It’s an excellent plant for colour through Summer. It grows up to 75cm tall will pop up through existing plants. It will attract butterflies and other nectar loving insects.
It is suited to grassy plains, rockeries, rooftop gardens, pots and cottage gardens.
They tolerate a wide variety of moist soils and will grow in full sun or part shade.
You can find it in native nurseries around Australia. In Victoria, you can find it at the VINC (Victorian Indigenous Nursery Co-op). These community-run nurseries grow more than 250 species of local indigenous plants.
