Jonathan Bennett has spoken about the struggles he faced at the start of his career.
The actor feared that revealing his sexuality would cause him to lose his female fans and his acting career as a romantic lead.

After coming out, Bennett found that his dedicated Mean Girls fanbase was very supportive.

“For me, I was afraid that my fans were going to revolt because I was Aaron Samuels, I was the hunk from Mean Girls. So, it's like, well, if all these girls that are my fans find out that I'm gay, they're not going to watch my movies or like me anymore. And the funny part is, the exact opposite happened when I came out: 99.9 percent were so excited to celebrate me.”

He is now married to TV host Jaymes Vaughan and has earned the affectionate title "The Gay King of Christmas" for starring in some of Hallmark’s first LGBTQ+ holiday movies.
