What are PVF pipe nipples & couplings

We hope to accomplish 3 things on this video
1. Make sure your able to identify the different types of nipples and couplings
2. Recognize the classifications of nipples by length
3. List the specifications of nipples and couplings
Both nipples and couplings are what we call straight line fittings. This simply means they will not change the direction of the flow, but make the flow to continue. They in all honesty are really just pieces of pipe that have been altered to be connectors to go with valves or pipe that doesn’t change the direction of the flow.
Nipples: Nipples are short pieces of pipe that are threaded outside and plain inside. Also designated with the term (MPT) or male threaded pipe. These are used to connect pipe, fittings, and valves
Nipples are most commonly in the industrial industry made of standard weight black steel or galvanized. However they also come in extra heavy steel, brass and stainless steel.
Classifications; the classification of a nipple is done by the size of the pipe the length of the nipple and the material in that order.
They come in 3 types , Close, short and long.
Close nipple: the threads meet at the middle, and is totally covered by male pipe threads which is MPT if your keeping score at home. So how do you know which one to use.. yes a pipe chart. We have them on the ivalco website or you can call an iv salesperson to get them to you.
Shoulder or short nipples: they leave some unthreaded pipe in the middle.
Long nipples as you would guess have the most amount of unthreaded area between the ends. This space will be more then 2 inches.
COUPLINGS: couplings weren’t just a mid to average friends rip off produced by the BBC in England in the 90’s. but they like there nipple friends also join pipe valves and fittings in a straight flow.
However unlike nipples couplings will always be considered to be female or FPT. Couplings would help seal a nipple for example.
couplings can join t2 pipes of different sizes. For example heres a 1 inch and a 2 inch pipe… these couplings will usually not be called couplings, many in the know will just say reducers. So if you here reducers just know we are talking about reducing coupling.
