What is a Butterfly valve

The Butterfly valve is Quarter turn valve or 90 degree valve that is also in the “on/off valve” category. Meaning it is mostly used to stay on or stay off.

This quarter turn valve uses a disk that pivots on a stem to allow or stop the flow. Some butterfly valves are used for throttling purposes. These valves are generally used for high volume low pressure situations.
One of the unique things about this valve is the disk stays in the stream of the liquid as it flows through the valve.
Butterfly valves are a great choice for 3 main reasons. 1. The cost is less then its gate valve brethren 2. The weight is a lot less and easier to work with. (show example of weight and width). 3. The only need a fraction of the space
