Learn how to use of lumbar roll in sitting to help prevent or recover from back pain
We discuss how to use a lumbar roll while sitting or driving a car. We reviewed the anatomy of the spine and explain how the use of a lumbar roll helps us in obtaining normal lumbar lordosis. By maintaining that position it acts like a splint for the injured back and allows it to heal or prevent or reduce that potential for injuring ones back. When placed correctly a lumbar roll will provide support the lower spine while sitting and driving. To use a roll correctly we show the proper placement of the roll by sitting as far back into the chair or seat you are in. Then hinge forward to allow your lower back to move away from the chair. At that time placing the lumbar roll and then leaning back. The upper back should come in contact with the chair and upper buttock region also should still be in contact with the vertical portion of the chair. We demonstrate the various rolls you can use from the Original McKenzie roll, inflatable adjustable rolls, Half lumbar rolls and the use of a wedge for those times you are in a chair without a back or sitting to watch a game in the bleachers.
