Game of Thrones | Joffrey Baratheon

In the grand scheme of Game of Thrones, Joffrey may very well stand as my favorite character — and don't take that the wrong way. I absolutely hate and pity him, and his heinous acts still continue to make my skin crawl. But I’ve never been so utterly fascinated with an evil character before. Jack Gleeson is immensely talented, and my only objection to him retiring from the celebrity-obsessed media is the fact that I won't be able to see him on-screen again!

It seems as though most villains in today’s films and television series are given this “misunderstood” trope, revealing a dramatic sob story about their past which changed them into the “monster” they are now. This, for lack for a better word, demands the sympathies of an audience — and when every villain has that same, conventional sense of “feeling lost", the escapism of storytelling can really start to fall flat and become too predictable. Joffrey, however, brought something new which I had not witnessed before: an unfathomable, unwavering degree of cruelty and hatred, and at such a young age.
