The Borgias — Trailer | The Scandal of Italy

The Borgias was one of the most exhilarating experiences I’ve had while watching a television series. The papal throne of 16th century Italy was not only an iconic, sacred symbol of the Catholic faith, but also a gateway towards obtaining the highest rank of political authority. Now, I decided to focus this trailer on the dynamics between two characters who, over the course of the series, progressed into something quite unprecedented and —dare I say— enduring. This series explores quite controversial subject matter in accordance to moral, religious, and ethical questions. Cesare and Lucrezia brought forth an attachment that is rather difficult for me to explain to those who defensively confront me about their given context. And with that, I completely understand. In my opinion, their relationship is founded upon genuine trust and protectiveness towards one another (rather than lust and hostile possessiveness as exemplified by Game of Thrones’ Lannister twins Jaime and Cersei). Given the corrupt environments Cesare and Lucrezia were raised in, and the gruesome circumstances and heartbreak they've experienced in the pursuit of love and purpose, the two are each other’s only escape from the evil that surrounds them. Quite the controversy.

The opening melody is a harp version of their love theme, performed by YouTuber @maiadarme (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLukIMNrmno&t=0s), followed by the series’ official opening theme. Both compositions are by the talented Trevor Morris.
