Galaxy S23 Series - Disable and Uninstall Bixby without Root

This process will work on the regular version of the Galaxy S23 that I have here, and will also work on the larger Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra as well.

If you've ever tried to power off this device through traditional Power button on the side here, then you've likely noticed that it no longer brings up the Power Menu. At least that won't work with the default setup.

So the first thing I want to show you is that we can make this button work like normal by opening up the Settings application and then searching for the word "side."

From here, tap the Side Key option and change the Press and Hold feature from Wake Bixby to Power Off Menu. Once this has been changed, go ahead and test it by pressing and holding the Power button.

For many people, this is all you need to do to not be bothered by Bixby anymore. Samsung likes to use the Galaxy S23 to promote its services but many of us simply do not want to use this virtual assistant. And removing its ability to be activated by pressing the Power button is enough.

But we can take this a step further and actually disable the Bixby Voice service entirely.

This is done by opening up the Settings app
Selecting the Apps option
Enabling the Show System Apps toggle
And then searching for the word Bixby

You'll see Bixby Vision, Bixby Voice, and many other Bixby services appear in the list.
We can disable the Bixby Voice service from running in the background by selecting it
And then tapping the Disable button here at the bottom.

If you want to stop here, then you can. And you'll be assured that the Bixby Voice service will not be able to run in the background.

However when we search for the word Bixby in this list then you'll notice there are 4 apps total.
When trying to disable those apps, we are not allowed to using this method because Samsung is preventing us from doing so.

But we can actually use a simple ADB command to actually uninstall all of these apps from the default user account on our Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, or Galaxy S23 Ultra.

This will truly prevent them from running in the background and will effectively remove them from our smartphone.

In order to use ADB to uninstall these apps and services, we need to know the package name of these apps.
So when I use an application to reveal the package names, I find that we actually have 5 different services running on the Galaxy S23 series that pertain to Bixby.

So let's connect our smartphone to the PC with a USB cable and begin removing Bixby from this device.

We're going to drop into an ADB Shell so that we can actually uninstall Bixby.
And now we need to execute an ADB command for each of the Bixby apps we saw in that Package Name application

So first we'll type out

pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.settings.bixby
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.bixby.agent
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.bixbyvision.framework
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.bixby.wakeup
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.visionintelligence
As long as we don't get an error message when we're executing these commands then that means we did it correctly
