The Monkees - If I Knew (Bill & Davy Version 1969)

Written by Bill Chadwick, (Who I consider the 5th Monkee along with Chip Douglas) & Davy Jones. Davy mainly kept the session going as he & Bill worked great together!

Bill Chadwick: "It was always easy to work with Davy. He always gave me complete creative freedom. He said whatever you need, what ever you want...do it! He would oversee it and make sure I wasn't going too far! He knew that I was the kind of person to who could go nuts and add 80 tabla players in there!

A bit of extra trivia, "French Song" & The Monkees TV "bumber" song, "We'll Be back in a Minute" sung by Micky were recorded the same day, in the same studio!
An alternate version can be fount on "The Monkees - Present".

Musicians:
Davy Jones: Lead Vocals
Bill Chadwick: Guitar, harmony vocal
Max Bennett: bass
Michel Rubini: Piano
Hal Blaine: Drums

Lyrics:
If I knew what was bothering you
I would run to your side
I don't know why
I would just die if you left me
Can't you see
What you're doing to me
Are you playing a game
Is it always the same
Am I to blame?
Or is anyone?
I don't want to settle down
With any other girl, but you
So I'm just gonna wait around
'Til you decide what you're gonna do
Can't you see
What you're doing to me?
Are you playing a game?
It's always the same?
Am I to blame?
Or is anyone?
I don't want to settle down
With any other girl, but you
So I'm just gonna wait around
'Til you decide what you're gonna do
If I knew, what was bothering you,
I would run to your side, I don't know why,
I would just die, if you left me.
Can't you see, what you're doing to me?
Are you playin' a game? It's always the same.
Am I to blame, or is anyone?
I don't want to settle down with any other girl but you,
So I'm just gonna wait around,
'Til you decide what you're gonna do. (do)
Can't you see, what you're doing to me?
Are you playin' a game? It's always the same.
Am I to blame, or is anyone? (anyone, anyone)
Ahh...

We all loved your Dad so much! As your Dad said about Micky, Peter and himself, standing at the urinals, "Bum Di Bum Di Bum!" He was a poet!
