Clearing Up Some Confusion On Aquarium Safe Glue Products For Aquatic Plants And Hardscape!

Confused about aquarium-safe glue? You’re not alone—there’s a LOT of mixed info out there, so let’s clear things up 👇

For years, Gorilla Glue Gel has been one of the go-to options in the hobby. Many aquarists (including me) have used it successfully in tanks with no issues. BUT if you check their official FAQ, they actually say it’s not aquarium safe.

So what’s going on?

After speaking to the owner of Moss Scapers Glue—who works in a glue factory—the likely reason is legal protection, not necessarily the formula itself. In practice, it does appear to be safe once cured.

That said, things have moved on—especially here in the UK 🇬🇧

We now have purpose-made aquarium glues like Moss Scapers Glue and Horizon Aquatics Glue, and honestly… they’re just better to use.

Here’s why:
✔️ Much faster drying time (minutes vs up to 24 hours)
✔️ Fully cure quickly so you can get back to your tank sooner
✔️ Precision tips = way easier application, no mess
✔️ Different formulas (plant glue vs hardscape glue for stronger bonds)

Some people say these are basically the same as Gorilla Glue—but from my experience, that’s not true at all.

Now to be fair—Gorilla Glue Gel can work. I’ve used it in tanks that are still running years later with no problems.

But personally? I’ve switched.

The newer aquarium-specific glues are just easier, cleaner, and way more convenient to use—especially for aquascaping plants, moss, and hardscape.
