November Fish Room Tour - Bettas, White Clouds, Celestial Pearl Danio, Medaka, And Shrimp!

November Fish Room Tour - Bettas, White Clouds, Celestial Pearl Danio, Medaka, And Shrimp!

In the 40-gallon tank, things are going well, though I lost a harlequin rasbora, likely from natural causes. The rest of the rasboras look healthy. I had a scare with my Siamese Algae Eater, which wedged itself between rocks, probably chasing food. Thankfully, it got out safely. The corydoras have been spawning regularly, so I’m expecting more fry soon. The water lettuce has been taking over, so I’m considering switching to Salvinia. I also repositioned the Echinodorus reni and Ludwigia Mini Super Red to improve growth, which seems to be helping.

In my 8-gallon betta tank, Marmalade is settling in well with her shrimp tankmates and is very curious, often digging around in the plants. One yellow shrimp is carrying eggs, so I’m excited to see if she’ll go after the shrimplets! I’ve started dosing liquid fertilizers to help the limnophila, which was showing nutrient deficiency. The Monte Carlo is thriving, despite Marmalade uprooting it from time to time. I’ll have a build video for this tank soon.

I broke down my other 8-gallon tank after my betta passed and saved the plants. I’m planning a Walstad-style guppy tank with Seiryu stone to raise pH, as my water is soft. Gateshead Guppies will supply the guppies, as they’re adapted to water conditions similar to mine.

In my 29-gallon Medaka tank, the fry are doing well, and the fish have grown nicely. They look more like platinum Medaka than the duocolor variety I expected, but they’re beautiful. Litorella uniflora has been a surprise success, quickly sending out runners. I’m letting the tank mature before sharing a build video, but I’m pleased with its development.

My 12-gallon white cloud mountain minnow tank is coming along with a lush, jungle look. The dwarf sagittaria and helanthium tenellum green are thriving, and the white clouds are constantly breeding. Although my ramshorn snails eat the eggs, I enjoy watching the process. The Seiryu stone in this tank hasn’t affected water parameters much, except for a slight pH increase.

In the 7-gallon tank, I chose celestial pearl danios from Gateshead Guppies after debating between them and clown killifish. I initially planned for 6–8, but with a deal for 10 and a bonus, I now have 11 CPDs. This is my first time keeping danios, and they’re lively and fun to watch. I plan to add some neocaridina shrimp soon, still deciding on the color.

In my shrimp tanks, I’m thrilled to see all four colonies breeding! My Walstad cherry shrimp tank is doing well, and I plan to move the two adult Medaka to the main Medaka tank to prevent predation on the fry. My pearlweed jungle tank will be rescaped soon, as I’ve started a new shrimp jar with pearlweed. In the orange neocaridina tank, there’s good news with recent babies, so I decided to expand my shrimp setup with a new tank rack.

In the yellow neocaridina tank, breeding has been successful, so I’ll be giving some shrimp to friends setting up tanks for Christmas. I added vallisneria varieties that handle cooler temperatures, and the Eleocharis is finally spreading around the tank after months of slow growth. I plan to rescape this tank next year.

My new rack includes two Walstad shrimp tanks and my shrimp jars, with a pearlweed jar build video coming soon. I’m still deciding if the third shelf will hold a shrimp tank or more jars. Lastly, my shrimp breeding tub will likely become a quarantine tank in the kitchen. I’m also considering breeding high-grade shrimp here, but for now, I’ll let the Walstad tanks evolve naturally.
