The Lion Who NEVER Forgot

In 1969, John Rendall and Ace Bourke purchased a lion cub from the exotic animals section of Harrods department store in London. They named him Christian and raised him inside their Chelsea flat and a nearby furniture shop for nearly a year.

As Christian grew too large to keep in the city, the pair worked with conservationist George Adamson to release him into the wild in Kenya. Adamson built a rehabilitation territory for Christian deep in the African bush. After several months, Christian was living fully wild.

In 1971, Rendall and Bourke returned to Kenya to find him. Adamson warned them that after more than a year in the wild, Christian almost certainly would not recognise them. What happened when Christian spotted them has since become one of the most documented and emotionally remarkable wildlife reunions ever recorded.
