The Woman Who SURVIVED 33,000 Feet

On January 26, 1972, JAT Yugoslav Airlines Flight 367 exploded at 33,000 feet over Czechoslovakia. All 27 other passengers and crew died instantly. Flight attendant Vesna Vulovic, 22 years old, fell the entire distance still trapped inside a section of the fuselage.

A German medic named Bruno Henke discovered her in the snow-covered wreckage and refused to stop resuscitating her despite no signs of life. She survived. She spent 27 days in a coma and woke with no memory of the flight. Doctors told her she would never walk again after suffering a fractured skull, three broken vertebrae, broken legs, and a crushed chest.

Within a year, Vesna Vulovic was walking. She returned to work at Yugoslav Airlines. She said she was not afraid of flying.
She holds the Guinness World Record for the highest fall survived without a parachute — a record that has never been broken.
She died peacefully at home on December 23, 2016.
