Culture Club IT'S AMERICA Live early version of It's A Miracle

This is the only professionally recorded version of "It's America" I've ever been able to find. It was recorded for radio and TV broadcast (where it aired on MTV, VH-1 and Nickelodeon in 1983). The song was changed quickly after the US leg of this tour that took place during the literal explosion of Kissing To Be Clever in the spring and summer of 1983. but before the "Colour By Numbers" album was completed. Several CBN songs were debuted on this tour, but "It's America" was the only one to warrant significant changes before the final recording. George says people misheard the lyrics and thought he was saying "It's A Miracle", so he changed the words- which may be partially true- if a bit out of character for George. But his US Record Label, Epic Records, and press officer, Susan Blond, were getting more and more complaints from fans and the general public about the song that it was at best ungrateful to the American audience that had taken to his look, sounds, and ideas up to this point. The verses about gun culture, celebrity worship, and plastic lifestyles might have been a bit harsh for Americans to swallow, but they were nothing more than an honest observation. Nevertheless, "It's America" was changed to "It's A Miracle", which transformed the remaining lyrics into nonsense.
