CULTURE CLUB- The Dream (Go Ask Alice For A Larger Version) by Mr. David

Another request, I thought about making it before, but once I got into it I had some fun. "The Dream" was the first song completed for the "Electric Dreams" soundtrack by Culture Club. They did two more- "Love Is Love" and "Hello Goodbye", which was deemed "too good to give away", so they kept it for their next album, "Waking Up With The House On Fire". The song was used in the film during the scene where the computer "come to life" and has it's first dream, although lyrically it has nothing to do with that, outside the association with "Alice In Wonderland", probably the most famous "dream" in entertainment history.

Helen Terry featured wonderfully on "The Dream", which would be one of the last recordings she made with the band before embarking on her solo career- a career which was highlighted on the soundtrack as well, with a song called "Now You're Mine".

George also wrote the title track of the film for another singer, P.P. Arnold, who sang a cover of "Love Is Love" for the home video release. All in all, the album is one of the best of the 1980's, and had a LOT to offer the Culture Club fan who picked it up because of "Love Is Love".

Sadly, the movie was not the blockbuster the producers expected it to be- it was perhaps too focused on the music but it wasn't really a musical. The love triangle between a man, a woman, and what at the time was presented as a realistic possibility for an artificially intelligent computer seemed too far fetched and "cutesy" to be taken as a romantic movie. And it fell flat as a comedy as well, giving it little chance at connecting with an audience. It's unlikely to ever see a reboot!
