FLORIDA VANLIFE p.1: Galveston, Gainesville, Fort Desoto Beach! // USA Vanlife Road Trip--Ep.8

USA Vanlife Road Trip Series - Episode 8
State 6: Florida

We're in Florida! Well, almost. First, we gotta drive the van on a road trip down to Galveston Beach and back for a good friend's wedding in Houston, TX. I didn't count this road trip as part of the 48-in-48 trip because I wasn't really there to explore--just to see family and friends. Although, it was so hot when I was there mid-october, that I ended up going to Eas Beach in Galveston in search of a cool breeze. At one point on ths trip, i spent hours on the cool floor of the van while parked in the shade, sharin ice packs with Cosmo! (Ninety degree days with 80 degree nights is not Vanlife-appropriate!)

I spent the holidays parked at my mother's house in New Jersey. I dressed as Auntie Shark for Halloween, made tofurky on Thanksgiving, and enjoyed Christmas and New Years with one- and three-year-old nephews! In January, I eagerly headed south, I spent one night moochdocking in Stafford, VA, and another lotdocking at a rest area near Savannah, GA.

Then, finally, I made it to FLORIDA! (We'll be here for weeks, so get cozy.) I explored Gainesville with an old friend, visiting Gator Stadium at University of Florida, went on a walk through La Chua Trail Gainesville, and finished the evening with marshmallows by the fire.

I then kept my Florida road trip going by driving down to St. Petersburg, moochdocking with my aunt and cousin, and getting a mysterious flat tire! I say mysterious because even the gentlemen at Firestone couldn't find the issue. Regardless, I filled the tire up and was on my way to Fort Desoto Beach! Fort Desoto Beach (North Beach) was gorgeous. The weather wasn't perfect, but I was at peace just being on the white sand looking out at the pretty blue water. Unfortunately, I lost 40 clips and four days worth of footage, so the Fort Desoto Beach trip is displayed through a slideshow of pictures I took there (thankfully I took a bunch).

Next up: Florida, Part 2: Everglades & Biscayne National Parks!

==========
MY VAN: 2001 Dodge Ram Van 3500 High-Top, converted from a handicap passenger van

MY DISCLAIMER: Most of the labor I did on my van was my first time doing those things, so I am very much not an expert. There are countless ways to convert a van into a livable home, this is just my way. This is a DIY budget van build, so I cut some corners you may not want to cut. Always use proper safety precautions and thorough research.

MY STORY: After backpacking in Europe and Asia for 14 months, I've decided to explore the USA in a converted campervan. In October of 2019, I bought my 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 and began converting it into my future home. I'm now roadtripping full-time with my cat, Cosmo, while traveling the USA and experiencing #vanlife. My idea is to hit the rest of the lower 48 states by the end of 2021.
