Celebrating Heart Month 2024 With Transplant Milestones

February is Heart Month and Duke Health is proud to have performed the most heart transplants of any other transplant center in 2023.

Heart transplants are part of a group called thoracic transplants, which is one of the most challenging and complex areas of transplant. Thoracic transplants also include lung transplants, of which Duke has performed more than any other center in the world.

Not only is the Duke Transplant Center team performing at a high volume, but they also perform at a high degree of complexity. The program has successfully completed the highest volume of some of the most difficult cases like combination heart and lung transplants, third double lung transplants, and our pioneering partial heart transplants.
