Your Recovery and Beyond | Duke Spine Center | Duke Health

How long you stay in the hospital varies based on the surgery you have. you may go home the same day or stay for as long as a week. Ask your care team for more information about this. A case manager will work closely with your surgeon and others to coordinate your follow-up care and make sure you and your caregivers have the resources you need when you leave the hospital and return home. You and your caregivers will be taught how to manage your care at home. You’ll be on oral pain medicines; you’ll have instructions to ensure your safety and best recovery. After spine surgery, you may have movement restrictions for up to 8 weeks. The exact amount of time depends on your recovery and your surgeon’s preference. You may need help with chores and errands such as driving. Make sure your home is safe and free of harm before you return.
