Know Your Body: Anaphylaxis Explained

We all know what allergies are, and many of us may also be familiar with the term, ‘anaphylaxis’. However, the reason why, and how, anaphylaxis occurs, may be less common knowledge. This video explores the immunoglobulin E-mediated (IgE) pathway, which is commonly activated during anaphylaxis. Subtopics highlighted in this video include what anaphylaxis is, how allergies develop, how anaphylaxis is triggered, and symptoms of anaphylaxis.

This video was made by McMaster University students Jasmine Sodhi, Sara Ukropina, Andy Zhu, and Arina Mojavery in collaboration with the Demystifying Medicine McMaster Program.
