When The White Stripes first announced they would be recording an album with the progressive rock band Yes, fans were aghast. It seemed the ultimate betrayal of The White Stripes’ DIY Garage/Blues/Indie roots. But initial horror and outrage turned to delight when almost two years later the "Fragile Thump" LP was released. Both critically praised and commercially successful, the album was a career high for both groups. Spawning the two massive hit singles “Owner of a Seven Nation Army” and “We’re Going to be Long Distance Friends,” the record sold over 3 million copies and sat at number one on Billboard’s Hot Prog/Punk 100 chart for sixteen weeks.
