12 Years of Drumming Progress: What Changed?

How have I improved over the last 12 years? Today we’re comparing recordings and video of my drumming over the last 12 years to see what I’ve gotten better at - and what I’ve specifically practiced to do so. At the end of the video I’ll “re-create” these old examples so we can see and hear the differences in my playing now 12 years later.
I’m now 27 years old as of filming this video in late 2020, so we’re going back to 2008 when I was 15. My playing was definitely pretty amateur and sloppy then, but it honestly didn’t improve a ton from ’08 to ’13. The drastic improvement is from ’13 to ’15, where my playing suddenly cleans up and gets more focused and precise. What changed? What did I start practicing that I hadn’t practiced before? We’ll watch the comparison video today, and I’ll breakdown exactly what I did to grow over the last 12 years. I hope this helps you grow on the drums too!
The truth is, you can make a lot of progress in 12 years. It's also worth stating that no one starts off good at the drums. We're all terrible at some point, and we all have to work to get better. I hope this inspires you to keep at it and keep practicing!
