U2 and B.B. King - Live in Rotterdam, 10th January 1990
U2 and B.B. King
Live at the Ahoy
Rotterdam, Netherlands
January 10 1990
Audience recording (A-)
The final night in Rotterdam was also the final night of the Lovetown tour, the final night of the Joshua Tree era and the final night of U2's classic 80s era. This is the show to end off everything that defined them in the 80s, before they re-emerged with the completely different sounding Achtung Baby and the absolute insanity that was Zoo TV. Not only are U2 about to go away for a while, but B.B. King and his band don't perform with them until Bono and Edge come on stage in 2008 to perform with B.B. for one final time. No song actually makes it's final appearance here, but multiple take a long while before they are performed again, and we still have one final setlist shakeup, being the reappearance of People Get Ready in the main set and the super rare inclusion of Slow Dancing, which is a short number performed just before All I Want is You here. All of this is super cool, but does it matter if the performance is standard? Your answer is pretty simple. This is one of the best performances of U2's live career. Ever. Not only do I think this is the best Rotterdam show, but it's the best Lovetown show and is personally my second favourite U2 show ever, only behind the Leeds show in 1997. Bono perhaps gives his best night ever, and the band are on absolutely top form throughout, as everyone provides extra parts to songs, such as the one off snippets that they did here and there, as well as ones that hadn't been seen on the EU leg at all. Keep an eye out for Desire, Watchtower, When Love Comes to Town and most of all, Bad.
