Penal Code 632 PC - When is "eavesdropping" a crime?
The legal definition of "eavesdropping" is when you listen in on a conversation, without the consent or knowledge of the parties to the conversation, and you either record it or use an amplifying device to hear what is said.
Under California Penal Code 632 PC, eavesdropping is a crime. It can be prosecuted as a misdemeanor or a felony and can carry up to several years in state prison.
