After the Spicy Shrimp Noodle dinner, a glass of nature will make the day energetic | Traditional Me

Usually I make noodles for dinner. Our neighbor, Uncle Siriwardena is working in the town and goes to work daily , so I got some shrimps through him to temper with the noodles for dinner. Brother loves when I make noodles with the prawns. What a sweet soul uncle is as he has sent a huge pack of kithul jaggery as well through the brother! When my brother saw the kithul jaggery, he smoothly put an idea to my head & commented how nice it will be to drink some herbal porridge with a piece of pure kithul jaggery in the next morning.

Since he gave me this idea , I stopped making the dinner halfway & went to the garden to gather some herbs before the night fall. It’s so easy to find enough varieties of nutritional herbs for the porridge when walk around the house! Tender leaves of Gotukola(Centella), Mukunuwenna(Sessile joyweed), Hathawariya(Asparagus recemosus), Welpenala(Balloon Vine), Karapincha (Curry leaves) pounded together with fresh grated coconut makes a highly nutritional & tasty porridge. Most of the people don’t have a clue as to what a highly nourishing, health boosting wonder drink that 1 big glass could add to their daily nutritional requirements! Best value that you can get is to add a palmful of well mashed boiled red kekulu rice which will add a morning power booster filled with nutrients in one big glass! My best advice is to add the fresh herbal juice in the last stage and not to boil the porridge for long so that high nutrients of the green herbs will not be destroyed! It’s an age old traditional practice for 1000 of year of our ancient ancestors to boost their strength & vitality by drinking herbal porridge every morning. Now I understand how Our ancestors maintain their high stamina & perfect health & lived up to over 100 years & more!

Came home with all the herbs for the porridge & I started to make the noodles again. It was good that I already cooked a vegetable curry earlier to go with the noodles. My secret to give such a rich flavor to this curry is, I deep fry the carrots, yellow beans, Lima beans broad beans, string beans, black string beans, winged beans, red winged beans, cauliflower, lady’s fingers, ash plantains & potatoes. Then mix thick coconut milk and cook the vegetables and reduce until the curry is dry! I know you will agree with me as to how appetizing the taste is. It was a simple meal but I was very happy that I managed to cook dinner for grandmother & brother which was packed with wholesome nourishing goodness & so flavorful too!
