WE BOUGHT A HOUSE IN CENTRAL PORTUGAL -THIS IS HOW MUCH IT COST! BUYING A TINY HOME IN RURAL VILLAGE

Hi there! I am Joseph.
I have been an expat living in central Portugal along with my beautiful girlfriend Mariana for six years now.

Together Mariana and I, along with my father Clinton and my brother in law Lloyd, would like to show you a bit of the daily goings on around our Portuguese farm / homestead / smallholding and all of the work we are doing whilst renovating, starting building projects, working with our livestock, DIY and trying to grow our little families own food!

In this episode we welcome you to join us in early summer time as we are given a tour around Lloyd and Lucys new family home that they just bought together, in our rural mountain village in central Portugal.

Lloyd show us room by room how the house is currently and what needs doing in terms of the construction work, replacing and renovating that will take place shortly.

He goes on to explain that he has been in talks with an architect about getting the plans drawn up for the house. They want to model the house on some 'tiny house' ideas that they have seen around YouTube and other places.

Shortly afterwards, we take a walk to the local restaurant, passing the villages bustling businesses, bakeries, cafes, bars, parks, hairdressers and butcher shops.

Together Lloyd and I have a 'prato do dia', or meal of the day, a set meal of octopus rice for Lloyd and grilled pork loin for myself. Washed down nicely with a nice glass of local vinho tinto, red wine.

After lunch time Lloyd and Lucy take a stroll back to the farm, I turn the other way and walk back into the heart of the village, to the praia fluvial, freshwater river beach. I explain a little bit about the purpose of the park and how they get the water level high enough for swimming.

I take a coffee there and then head back to our cherry farm, where I firstly check up on the little Muscovy ducklings that hatched last week, they are now out and about and learning how to paddle from their mother duck.

At the very end of the afternoon my father and I don our beekeeping suits and take a stroll up to our three beehives with our smoker, hive tools and of course the camera. The hives go through there two weekly inspection and all seems good, we show some of the honey frames and I speak a little about the goings on in the hive at this time of year.

Right at the end of the day I sit down on some granite steps, have a chat with you all about this week and how everything went. It was nice that we had a bit more time off the farm this week, exploring a little in the village and wining and dining in our local eatery. As we are in between seasons and in between jobs it means we can relax and recharge somewhat.

Next come the figs, now I just need to think up some recipes for them...
