Waltzing Along: A Tribute to The Prisoner
*HD & headphones*
Orwell on Goethe's 'Hammer into Anvil quote: "In real life it is always the anvil that breaks the hammer, never the other way about."
The Prisoner is my favourite TV series of all time. That fact is something I've realised after rewatch after rewatch and my feelings of love, admiration and wonder the show inspires merely growing. Words cannot do this series justice; it is eternally relevant, visually unique, witty, funny and clever, and a tour de force for Patrick McGoohan. How one person can hold so much talent, intelligence, sharpness, humour and originality, I don't know. But the point of the Prisoner, I suppose, is that we are all unique-- not numbers, not reduced to what the system wants us to be.
The Prisoner is not as simple as any other spy story, or a conventional story in general-- but it is a flexible narrative and I'd like to see it as a victory, if only a small one. This video is intended to convey that message; the struggle, however absurd, is a worthy one and in spite of its confusing nature I think the series provides a satisfying conclusion (we'll ignore the bit where the real door of Six's home opens like in the village)
So here is a real, honest tribute to Patrick and the series. For opening minds, entertaining, and inspiring. I always like posting on birthdays, so here it is on Paddy's. Many happy returns...
