Christopher Lee: A Tribute
A small, personal tribute to one of my favourites, and one of the most formidable actors of all time, Christopher Lee.
It's hard to believe it's been nearly 4 months since his death. I had just celebrated his birthday in May, thanking all the gods in the universe for his continued presence, feeling so glad that one tenable link between the old world of movies that I loved and this real, modern one still existed. Although Christopher had a full life, fuller than most, I still felt loss. Not only for myself but for everyone who has worshiped him for so many years, knowing that he's no longer here to share his wit, his charm and his limitless talent with us.
But making this video, as I've made videos for countless actors and actresses I admire who died decades before my birth, I can see Christopher alive as he ever was. I never watch a Vincent Price movie and think 'he's dead, this isn't real'-- because it IS real, in that moment on film, and it always will be. Christopher will always be there for me and for anyone else thanks to film, making us laugh, cry or feel horror. We are so fortunate to have so much of him (with over 250 movie, TV and even video game roles) to help keep his memory and legacy alive. Nothing about his death can change the fact Christopher Lee is an inspiration and someone I love.
Now that's the sappy bit over-- I have a much longer, extensive tribute planned, however I wanted to upload something relatively soon after his death... I'm only 4 months late! This is a selection of my favourite roles of Christopher's, even if some of the films I am lukewarm about. I wanted to showcase his range and how, even in horror roles, he is not just baring his fangs or murdering innocents. Even Dracula has moments of sensitivity. I know Chris would have hated to be remembered solely as a horror icon dripping with blood on a poster, and I hope this tribute shows that he is much, much more.
FILMS USED:
The Whip and the Body
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
The Devil Rides Out
The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll
