The PAINFUL Deaths Of The Tudor Kings and Queens - FULL Documentary

The most notorious and brutal ruling family to ever reign over England was the Tudors. They are associated today with execution, torture and bloodshed. The most famous Tudor monarch was King Henry VIII, who had 6 wives two of which were executed inside the walls of the Tower of London. Henry had Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard, his second and fifth wife beheaded and he also stopped at nothing to execute some of his closest friends and advisors. His father, King Henry VII seized the throne following victory at the Battle of Bosworth, defeating King Richard III and he was the first Tudor monarch. Henry VIII's quest for a male heir saw him eventually pass the throne to the son he greatly wished for, Edward VI. He continued the huge amount of religious changes that Henry VIII had began after breaking from the Catholic Church and beginning the English Reformation.

Following the young death of Edward VI, there was a problem as to who would seize the throne next. Lady Jane Grey, Edward's cousin reigned for just 9 days before she was deposed by one of the most infamous Tudor Queens, Bloody Mary I. Mary is known famously for her burnings of Protestants at the stake, and during her reign she made the country Catholic once again. But following her brief 5 year reign, arguably one of the greatest monarchs ever to rule England came onto the throne. During the reign of Elizabeth I, there was a golden age across the country with huge exploration efforts, and the Queen even managed to defeat the Spanish Armada with a famous victory. However Elizabeth was the final Tudor monarch, as she never had a son or married and because of this the throne passed over to the Stuarts. However each of the Tudor monarchs had a rather sad and painful end to their lives. It's alleged that Henry VIII and Elizabeth even exploded shortly before their funerals. Edward VI and Mary I also had very painful and long bouts of ill-health and illness.
