The HORRIFIC Execution Of The Remains Of John Wycliffe

Throughout History one of the most serious things that someone could be labelled was a heretic or a religious criminal. John Wycliffe was one of the first people to question the Catholic church and because of this he was subjected to a terrible ordeal after death. Throughout his life he criticised the Pope and also Monks, and he believed that the most important thing in religion was scripture. Wycliffe called for reform and this was dangerous, and many accused him of being a heretic, which is something someone could be burned at the stake for.

But Wycliffe died from a stroke before he was subjected to execution. However after his death in the decades after he was exhumed and was then subjected to a posthumous execution. He had his remains burned at the stake, and then his ashes were scattered in the River Swift next to his gravesite. It was a brutal end for a man who had caused chaos for the Church.
