3HP Electric Motor will it run on both AC & DC - Hooked up to Electronic Speed Controller

In this video I'm trying to power up a 50 year old Sunbeam lawn mower motor on direct current also trying to power it up on a modern electronic speed controller PWM brushed motor speed controller 10 - 50v, will it run? Is this a Universal motor?. The motor runs normally on 120v AC, wall current. They claim the motor is 3HP but that would only be peek HP because the motor runs on a 15 amp breaker. The motor is out of a curb find lawnmower, I never thought I would ever do anything with this motor but now I have some ideas :) This motor is geared down and seems to have a lot of torque I'm only using 50v but I would like to see if it would work on another project, and maybe look for a 96v controller. The controller I used was bought online you can find them on most sites, this is a DIY controller so you have to make a box for it I will probably 3D print something with my Ender3 soon. I have two of these motors but one is missing a brush and the commutator is damaged. Music in the video is from youtube copyright free library: Engine Fire Fire - Silent partner.
