DIY Solar Panel How to Build 32 Watt 12v Panel - Tabbing 78x78mm Solar Cells
In this video I show how to build a complete 32 Watt Solar Panel that is a DIY glass on glass non encapsulated panel. I first built panels like this about 8 years ago, you can check out those videos on my channel for more info. This panel has 32 78x78mm cells 1 watt each, which gives an output voltage of 16 volts to charge a 12v battery. I show how to tab the cells quickly I'm using a 60 watt soldering iron with a angled tip. I don't show connecting up the terminals on the back of the panel but all I did was solder on two wires covered connections with silicone and added a diode to the negative terminal, my other videos show these steps. The diode is used to block current from going back through the panel, I use old diodes from power supplies you can find them online bulk. As for Cells you can order solar cells on many online sites, of course some sites offer better prices so you need to shop around and beware of inflated prices. In this video I tab the cells unlike my other panels that were pre- tabbed. I had some trouble getting the cells to tab so I show a little trick to get the cells to tab easily. I know resin is getting on the cells but I don't mind about finger prints or resin on the cells because they still work fine. I rushed building the panel so If you take your time it will turn out much better than mine and you will have better tabbing results. The big question! is it worth building homemade panels in 2021, I can only recommend building panels like this if you have the glass sitting around and want to enjoy the satisfaction of building your own panels also if your a student and want to practice. 100 - 200 Watt Solar panels have dropped so much in cost and if you buy them bulk you can get some amazing deals, of course you have to shop around and read all the reviews. The other big question is how long does the glass on glass panels last, if they are mounted on a stand off the ground and attached so ice doesn't build up between the panel they can maybe last at least 10 years, mine are still working after 8 years. Thanks for Watching @kurtscottage Big Thanks to all my Subscribers! more videos on the way.
