Holgate was ‘forensic’ and gave ‘dates, detail and facts’ at Senate hearing: Peta Credlin

A real question now, following Christine Holgate’s Senate hearing appearance, is whether Australia Post Chairman Lucio Di Bartolomeo should be removed and “Holgate reinstated," according to Sky News host Peta Credlin.

The former CEO fronted a Senate hearing on Tuesday, particularly in relation to the Cartier watch scandal, but Ms Credlin said it has “now gone way beyond that”.

“To say today’s evidence from Holgate was explosive is an understatement … as I watched the proceedings today, the very manner of her evidence was personal and compelling," she said.

“I’ve seen a lot of witnesses give evidence in parliamentary committees, but she was forensic and – for most of her testimony – she gave dates, time, details, all without even needing to refer to a note."

Ms Credlin said “as angry as Holgate might have been” about her alleged treatment by the prime minister and other ministers, she “reserved her most pointed criticism” for Lucio Di Bartolomeo.

“And again, backed up with dates, detail, and plenty of facts,” she said.

“One of the real questions tonight is whether the Chair should be removed and Holgate reinstated.

“There’s still a lot to play out here, but given every one of us has a stake in Australia Post and its viability, its survival into the future, I’m sure you will want to keep following it as I do, and we will here on Credlin.”
