Holgate’s Cartier watch saga criticised by a government ‘running up $1t in debt’
Sky News host Alan Jones has questioned why the prime minister bought into the outrage over the Cartier watch scandal involving “very talented” former chief executive Christine Holgate.
Mr Jones criticised the government’s handling of the issue including when Communications Minister Paul Fletcher said, “we need to take care of taxpayers’ money”.
“That was from a government that had run up $1 trillion of debt,” Mr Jones said.
“Christine Holgate's administration had brought in $66 million and when this happened, she had only been there for less than a year. She is very talented.
“At the end of February, this year, Australia Post announced a six-month profit increase of 100%. She was the CEO for four of the six months up to December.
“Why the hell did the prime minister buy into this last year. He demanded Christine Holgate stand aside while an inquiry was conducted into the watches affair and if she didn't stand aside, he said she ‘could go.’
“We have just been through weeks of all this business about women needing to be heard and have the same say as a man, and outrage at the bullying of women. Where does this fit in?”
