‘He hasn’t read the report he spent a million dollars on’: Holgate hits back at Paul Fletcher

Former Australia Post Chief Executive Christine Holgate has responded to comments made by Paul Fletcher, saying it’s “a pity” the communications minister “hasn’t read the report he spent a million dollars on”.

On Wednesday Mr Fletcher, in an exclusive interview with Sky News, disputed that Ms Holgate had acted inside the rules when Cartier watches were awarded to some employees.

“There was a full inquiry, and it found that that behaviour was inconsistent with the act, the act which governs spending of public money,” Mr Fletcher said.

“It found this was public money, this was taxpayers’ money – that’s a very important point – it found that there was no policy within Australia Post which would have authorised the giving of such watches”.

“It found that the board had not signed off on it and the chair at the time advised that he was not aware of it.”

Speaking with Sky News host Peta Credlin, Ms Holgate said finding number six in the report found “no intentional dishonesty, fraud, misuse of spending”.

"It's a pity the minister hasn't read the report he spent a million dollars on," she said.

“It is so disappointing to me he will not address the real issue here Peta, the real issue is they unlawfully stood me down".

“They repudiated my contract, even yesterday at the Senate, the chairman said he was instructed to stand me down by Paul Fletcher”.

“They bullied me, they humiliated me, and it has been relentless.”

Ms Holgate invited Peta Credlin to “call Paul Fletcher, get him on this program, stand him next to me and get him to tell your viewers: ‘was I lawfully stood down or not’”.

“I would like him to remember that when he does that he’s not under parliamentary privilege, that he’s allowed to say anything he likes,” she said.
