How to Handstand Push Up - 4 AMAZING TIPS! (CALISTHENICS)
Here are 4 of the best tips to help you master the handstand push up!
The handstand push up is perhaps one of the most impressive calisthenics skills out there. It requires a tremendous amount of shoulder, upper back, lat, and core strength to achieve, but once you can do it, you can truly say you have achieved a phenomenal bodyweight skill.
In this tutorial, I share 4 of the best tips you can use to learn the handstand push up. I also include a bunch of handstand push up progressions (ranked from easiest to hardest) to help you understand how to progress with your handstand push up training.
Remember: the handstand push up is an advanced calisthenics skill. It takes a while to learn - so persevere, train smart, and you will get it in no time!
As far as handstand push up exercises go, all of the progressions included in this video are absolutely amazing for learning the handstand push up (HSPU). Usually, I have my favourites, but I can say that each of the progressions works wonders for strengthening the shoulders in preparation for full HSPU.
For beginners, though, I highly recommend pike push ups. The strength gained from pike push ups translates directly into the handstand push up (and other handstand push up progressions), so they're a great starting point for those who want to learn the handstand push up for the first time.
For more advanced athletes who can do pike push ups with relative ease, I'd recommend handstand push up negatives. I actually achieved the handstand push up by doing handstand push up negatives, so I know from experience that they really do work. Handstand push ups against the wall are also another great exercise to strengthen your body in preparation for the final HSPU.
