Conversation 016: Interdisciplinary Fine Artist Kevin Gilmore

Rhode Island based interdisciplinary artist Kevin Gilmore and I first met, backstage post The National show, Boston, MA late 2019. It so happened I was there beforehand, documenting two fellows whom I’ve spoken within this framework that is the Uncontaminated Sound interview series, a Mr. Ben Lanz and Kyle Resnick, the very talented touring horn players for The National.

Thus, I found myself backstage post show, whence I met Kevin for the first time. Like any visual aficionados we immediately spoke the language of art, and I learned that Kevin explored not only the world of physical material but also the visceral realm of sound as well. Kevin had collaborated with Ben on a music video for his side project LANZ a video entitled “125 BMP”.

Along with being an accomplished working artist, Kevin is also an active educator within the visual arts, teaching workshops in the likes of Rhode Island School of Design’s 2019 Pre-College Summer course “Design Foundations/ Drawing Majors: Urban Frottage”, along with other programs from respectable arts organizations.
In conversation 016, Kevin and I dive into the abstract, art education, music, and even ending in a mini studio tour.
Please enjoy the conversation,
Rob Lundberg (Artist & photographer)
