The famous train ride from Kandy to Ella is one of the most beautiful and scenic train rides in the world. We did it twice, and we absolutely loved it. This is the video from when we went from Kandy to Ella and stopped in Nuwara Eliya for a few days.

The train was very full, but we learned a few hacks that we're definitely going to remember for next time!!

First of all, it's possible to get reserved seats for the cars – something we'd DEFINITELY recommend! 2nd class is more comfortable than 3rd class, but if the only seats available are in third class (or if you're on a really tight budget), 3rd class is completely fine.

If you can't get reserved seats (or forgot to buy them a few days before), remember that almost all tourists have 2nd class tickets and will try (and fight!!) to get on the train. If it's a busy day, try 3rd class instead of 2nd class.
