A CANNON BLAST FROM THE PAST · FREDERIKSTED, ST. CROIX · US VIRGIN ISLANDS | TRAVEL VLOG #85
Saint Croix is a very interesting island in the Caribbean sea. The island is one of three main islands and more than 50 smaller islands that make up the U.S. Virgin Islands. The islands have known the flags of both Spain, the Netherlands, England, France, the knights of Malta and – the main reason we visited the virgin islands – Denmark.

There are two main cities on the island of Saint Croix - Frederiksted and Christiansted. We stayed in the smaller of the two - Frederiksted - which is located on the west end of the island. Frederiksted is also known as “Freedom city” because it was the place where the Danish governor General Peter Van Scholten read the proclamation abolishing slavery in 1848.
Fort Frederik is one of the island’s two forts. And it’s my favorite of the two. The fort was built by Denmark between 1752 and 1760 to defend the economic interests of the port and to ward off pirates of the Caribbean. Sorry, I had to. The fort (and the town) were named in honor of the Danish King Frederik V.
We stayed at this beautiful place called Cottages by the Sea. It has one of the best beaches on the island, and it is only a 15-20 minute walk from the center of Frederiksted, and you can borrow bicycles for free. And because food on the islands is expensive, having a little kitchen is really nice. The room we stayed in was 185 dollars a night, and we absolutely loved it.
That’s it for this video from Frederiksted. In the next video, we visit the bustling little town of Christiansted on the other side of the island. Please like this …. Remember to subscribe to my channel if you aren’t already, and in that case I will see you in my next video from christiansted.
Hi there! I'm Anne-Li – Danish girl, globetrotter, travel vlogger, blogger and digital nomad traveling the world as a digital nomad, when I don't live in Denmark with my boyfriend. Spending a month in Budapest every summer taught me that traveling does not have to be expensive and that slow travel is the way to go – for me. I was traveling full-time for 2 years from September 2016, and I usually based myself in one place for at least a month or two. This way of traveling is not only budget friendly – it also means that we I can take my time and really explore and enjoy the place I'm in. Now, I've chosen to base myself in Denmark where I live with my boyfriend, but travel is still my passion, and I'm still living my freelance life, so I can travel whenever I want.
I eat local food, shop at local markets, meet local people and enjoy experiencing different cultures – all the while seeking out the best wifi and exploring everything there is to explore. Everyday is another adventure, and I'd love for you to be part of it!
Let's go!
