SONG #0685 03-06-23
Title: Island Of Dreams
Artist: THE KESTRELS
Format: LP
Label: Piccadilly NPL 38009
Year: 1963
Composer: Tom Springfield
Director/Backing: Johnny Keating Sound
Publisher: Chappell & Co
Footnote:
Yes, it’s the Bristolian doo wop group The Kestrels performing a cracking version of The Springfields chart hit “Island Of Dreams”. Song composed by Dusty’s brother Tom Springfield, and produced by The Johnny Keating Sound. The Kestrels version is taken from their 12 track album titled “Smash Hits” released way back in 1963 on Pye-Piccadilly Records. The Kestrels featured Roger Greenaway, Tony Burrows, Roger Maggs and Geoff Williams. When Tony left in early 1965, Roger Cook joined for a few months before they split. In the mid 1950’s they originally started performing as The HiFi’s and The Beltones before their manager Arthur Parkman noticed the pencil he was using had the name of Kestrels printed on. They also recorded under The Four Kestrels on 2 songs with Billy Fury. Plus releases with Benny Hill and The Viscounts. The Kestrels reformed in 2008 and performed some charity events and in 2009 released a new recording CD album “Still Flying After 50 Years”.

Something different for a change. Instead of hearing the same hits over and over again, I have dug out 3 thousand related songs to Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway. All are NON HITS!
I will be playing one song a day. It looks like I'll be finished in around 9 years time!
All songs are somehow related to Cook & Greenaway. Written, Produced, Performed, Back vocal, Record label, Publishing. ENJOY!
