I Bought Happiness and you can too!

How to buy happiness.

In this video, I dive into how to buy happiness because money and happiness are related no matter what anyone says. In this video, you'll see why.

We all want happiness and search for happiness everywhere and from every decision.
True happiness will always come from within. There are homeless people on the streets that are grateful for what they have and millionaires contemplating suicide because they focus on what they don’t have. If you don’t have a healthy perspective and a consistent practice of gratitude, you will never be as happy as possible.

2. Very few people know what happiness is to them. Instead, they are told how to be happy by their parents, friends, teachers, and every advertisement they see.

To start buying happiness, you need to know WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY.
Take a few hours to answer questions like:
What is the happiest time of my life?
What was the most miserable period of my life?
What work did I enjoy the most and dislike the most?
Where would I live if nothing could hold me back?
If money was no object, how would I spend my day?
How would I live differently if I could start all over?
How am I living now that doesn’t make me happy?

These questions should get you thinking. The next step is to look at your answers and look for some common themes. Maybe your happiest moments were on vacation in far off countries, maybe it was having brunch with your friends, maybe it was going to a concert with your spouse.

Now think of times you weren’t happy. What kind of work were you doing or what situation were you in that made you upset? For me, I hate everything cold weather related so I’ve learned that sun and warmth mean a whole lot to me and happiness is deeply tied to my surroundings being warm and sunny.

Step 3 is formulating a list of your current bills and expenses and matching them to your list of what makes you happy and unhappy to see where your money is going.
Let’s say some of your happiest memories was backpacking through Europe for a month. What is keeping you from that now? Is it your career? Is it your current expenses?

For me, travel is huge and the flexibility to move around is critical so I love keeping my bills low. Is your car payment keeping you from trips like that? Are you over paying for rent?
Cutting out the expenses that aren’t bringing that same level of happiness is clutch. Ditch that $400/month car payment if you can. Rent out that extra room in your home to bring in some money. Make sure that every dollar you spend is bringing the most amount of happiness to you. Maybe you absolutely love having a big place all to yourself. That’s great but if it’s not worth the extra $500-$1000, then rent the rest out so you can buy your happiness.

Lastly, step 3 is actually to buy happiness.

I’ve learned that the enjoyment and fulfillment of life is about relationships and experiences. Buying items that don’t enhance relationships or experiences aren’t worth it to me. So start looking at every purchase as “Will this create wonderful experiences and/or enhance my relationships?”

Some of my favorite purchases include: a barbecue for grilling food with friends, luggage to go on trips, Skydiving passes to take my best friends, concert tickets, lunch with family, friends, and dates.

Some of my worst purchases: televisions, designer clothes, jewelry, expensive vehicles

It’s up to you to create your own list based on your own criteria for happiness but just remember to live by your own rules not those imposed upon you.
